Remember a few posts back I said we were open to trying cloth diapers, but thought we were late in the game? Well last month Jezriel and I attended The Cloth Diaper Event in Venture County.
There were a few other cloth diaper vendors, but naturally my eyes kept drawing over to the Little Owls table, such a cute set up.
The sister owners, Katheryn and Michele educated us on their diaper and listened to our needs. I expressed we practice EC (Elimination Communication) with our daughter and assumed we missed our window of opportunity.
They pointed out I didn’t, because I mentioned we EC’d only part-time so the other half she was still in disposable diapers. Why didn’t I think of that before?!?!
Little Owl Baby All In 2 aka AI2 diapers are really simple. You basically have a ‘Shell’ the pretty part, a ‘Soaker’ that snaps inside the shell and an optional ‘Booster’ that you would just lay on top of. The shell and soaker are both water proof, which makes my life easier. When the soaker gets soiled on it won’t go through, this way you can keep on using the shell!
I thought we would use the booster at night, but this is one product our family doesn’t utilize much. I feel it’s because Cataleya cue’s us when she needs to potty at night.
To be honest I was a little grossed out on how to handle the soiled diapers, but in reality it’s not that much different that you cleaning up a huge blow out. Out in public I just put the dirty diaper in our wet bag. When I get home I use the Spray Pal, yup just spray down the soiled diaper into the toilet and throw into a bucket. At the end of the day I then launder them, Little Owl site explains their easy recommend process.
One thing I literally just learned and hope I didn’t damage my diapers is to avoid the dryer, just lay them out in the sun on a drying rack (similar). It’s a simple natural way to brighten and sanitize them!
Overall, we love cloth diapers and can’t believe we haven’t needed to buy more disposable ones. I can’t believe I wasn’t open to it and researched much early on, because I now think of how many woven wraps I could have right now in my possession.
I will note we do use one disposable diaper a day while the cloth ones are washing and drying. Jezriel is happy he doesn’t have his hands full of trash bags filled with only diapers. I’m so glad we went to that event because it opened our eyes up so much more

I was always terrified of using a cloth diaper, but after the way you described it….it actually didn’t sound that bad. I can’t believe I’m reading something about diapers…..especially considering mine have all graduated from their diaper days. I’ve been doing this too long, lol. Pretty interesting though!

I’m not a mother yet, but when I am I hope to cloth diaper, as it just seems so much better for the environment, plus they are super cute! I’ve seen some really lovely designs.
