Learning CPR

This past weekend my husband and I took a CPR AED course. Jezriel took one in high school and I’ve never attended one, so I had no idea what to expect. I really wanted us to take it because I want to feel more comfortable practicing baby led weaning with my daughter. She’s 7.5 months old now and I’ve been holding back on her playing and/or exploring solids. Wasn’t too worried pushing off solids, because I knew she was still getting all her nutrients from breastfeeding.

I reached out to my birth center friends on my community Facebook Group and they recommended Heart N Soul. It was even more perfect, because it was located in the same plaza as the birth center that I birthed at.

Basically our class was 2.5 hours in the morning with a small group of other people with our instructor Sergio. We left a little detail out and forgot to mention Cataleya was 7.5 months old and that she’d be with us, but he was super accommodating! We were a little worried, because she didn’t want to take a nap and been up since 4:30am, but surprisingly she did amazing in the class.

The class went over adult, child and infant CPR as well as signs of choking. The class was very interactive and man those mannequins were fit! During the class I was working up a sweat, my face was getting flushed and breathing hard between all the rep and sets we were doing. As our instructor, Sergio said we were working up our muscle memory. I was pretty sore on my triceps, core, wrists and fingers on Sunday, that’s what I get for lagging on my yoga well over a year.

Overall, that class was very useful and well worth it. We do plan having Cataleya’s grandparents taking the class as well. If your in the Santa Clarita area I highly recommend this place.

  1. Great post! I never thought about taking a CPR class. This should seriously be a part of parenting classes curriculums. Excellent thinking outside of the box. ???????
